Joint control of wastewater pumping stations

A system for the intra-system control of wastewater engineering plants – in particular using radar-based rainfall measurement and arithmetic optimisation of the wastewater flow management – was developed by an interdisciplinary consortium.

The joint control of wastewater pumping stations developed within the framework of the ISM research and development project will be gradually implemented as a decision aid system at the central pumping station control centre. The identification of the principles, planning and layout design were more or less completed in 2006. The interdisciplinary project consortium (Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin gGmbH, Berliner Wasserbetriebe, Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin, Free University of Berlin – Faculty of Meteorology) is investigating further measures of an intra-system control of the wastewater engineering installations.

The working programme includes radar-based rainfall measurement and forecasting and the arithmetic optimisation of the wastewater flow management. The project is being financed by Veolia Water and Berliner Wasserbetriebe.
