The function of water
Water for life: the function of water in the body
Water is essential for the body. Water is needed for the following functions:
As a component of the blood
As a component of the blood, water provides us with oxygen and all important nutrients. At the same time, toxins are transported via the blood vessels to the kidneys, where they are excreted.
To regulate body temperature
Water regulates our body temperature. When the temperature rises, we sweat. Our temperature remains constant. However, if no water is released, we get a fever and feel unwell.
As a solvent
As a solvent, water maintains the consistency of all body fluids. When water is lost, for example, the blood becomes thicker. As a result, water can be an important influence on body fluids.
In order to break down substances
Many proteins, vitamins and sugar molecules can only be used by the body through water. Water helps break down the substances so that they can be further processed.
For cells and tissue
Furthermore, water is a key component of cells and tissue. Our body is constantly being flushed. 1,400 litres of water flow through our brain alone every single day, ensuring that we can function mentally and maintain concentration.
