Cable measurements – inspection and fault localisation

In order to ensure the trouble-free supply of electrical energy as a precondition for efficient operating processes and unlimited operational safety, we offer the technical competence and experience of Berliner Wasserbetriebe in the measurement of power grids.  

The aim here is first to protect suppliers and operators against liability risks and claims for damages, while at the same time reducing the costs for necessary excavation work and the subsequent restoration of the surface in the event of a failure.    

Trouble-free energy supply

In the event of faults, our inspection and fault localisation service ensures an efficient approach, precise measurements and thorough evaluation of the results by experienced specialists and the latest high-tech cable measuring vehicles. In addition – as a matter of course for a company of the Berlinwasser Group – we offer the precise localisation of leaks in water-bearing systems. Our specialist colleagues are available on stand-by at all times.


We inspect:   

• Insulation damage or faulty cable glands with DC voltage or for PE and VPE cables using 0.1 Hz VLF voltage 
• Medium and low-voltage cables for insulation and disruptive strength after the laying of new cables or repairs
  

 

We localise:  

• Low-resistance faults using reflector meters, thereby localising interruptions and short-circuits with our measuring equipment
• Cables to determine the course of the cable and the laying depth using the cable route locating unit 
  
  

We determine:  

• Cable routes, cable courses
• The depths and lengths of low and medium-voltage cables ranging from 0.4 – 30 kV

 

In addition, an impulse wave generator is available for the precise detection of cable faults: The distance is measured exactly, resulting in a precise determination of the fault location in the field. On request, localised faults can also be repaired.
