Research and development
Research and development have a long tradition at Berliner Wasserbetriebe. The primary objective of our research and development activities is to sustainably protect the environment and hence be able to manage the water resources for many years to come.
Present-day technical standards such as the assurance of an independent drinking water supply in a hygienically perfect quality without the use of chlorine, the trenchless laying of new and removal of old pipelines and the biological elimination of phosphate in sewage treatment plants were developed in Berlin and are regarded today as the nationwide standard.
In future, too, innovative technologies and concepts will be developed in order to increase the effectiveness and meet ecological demands.
Apart from the company’s own research and development, projects are also handled in conjunction with the Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin.
The Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin is an international centre for water research and science transfer that links the potentials and activities of the Berlin universities and research institutes with those of the Berlinwasser Group and of Veolia Water.
